N, that’s not a toupee the mummified corpse is wearing. It’s his real hair that’s been preserved, along with the rest of his body, by a natural preservation process from sphagnum moss (aka peat moss) combining with low temperature, highly acidic water, and a lack of oxygen, which is also the reason his skin is leathery and tea-colored.
The Inca civilization was the largest pre-Columbian era indigenous empire in the Americas from around the years 1400 to 1533 CE (or AD), occupying much of Peru and covering a large portion of western South America, including Bolivia, Ecuador, and into what is now Chile.
The Inca started as a small tribe, grew more powerful, and conquered other tribes along the coast from Colombia to Argentina. One of their greatest contributions is building a network of roads throughout the region and they are also known for contributing much to architecture and religion.
Starting out on Medium can sometimes seem like the most daunting undertaking, as there is so much to learn. But, having someone show you some of the ropes on how to succeed here can be helpful.
Below is a collection of some of my stories that should be helpful to any of you who might not have a clue about how to do some things and would like to know. I’ve been writing here steadily for about 7 months, and I’ve picked up a thing or two along the way.
These are some of the most helpful insights that have…
Ever since Medium’s last change, many writers have been complaining about seeing their views/reads (and incomes) plummet in a downward spiral. Some of you have shared how much your income has decreased after Medium’s last overhaul, and it’s pretty significant. Many are wondering why this happened and a few theories have circulated. But the one that has caught my attention the most is that Medium is cracking down on stories with clickbait titles and removing stories from the platform because of it.
Let me tell you. Medium itself is not on a downward spiral. And it’s not because of clickbait…
That is the answer to the question of why some people look younger than their age and others look older than they really are.
Aging is, at its simplest description, a biological process, and it happens with anything living whether that be a piece of fruit, a flower, an animal, or a person.
Think about it. What happens to a piece of fruit or flowers when they get old? Their appearance changes drastically from vibrant and supple to the opposite. The fruit rots and decomposes and the flower withers and does the same.
They go through…
Discovering ancient relics, fossils, or remains of humans and animals that roamed the Earth thousands of years ago must be a fascinating experience, as two fishermen in Ireland recently found out when their quest for fish turned up the remains of an ancient Irish Elk.
Megaloceros giganteus is the scientific name for the Irish Elk, an ancient deer species with large skulls and gigantic antlers that have been extinct for over 10 millennia.
During the time when many Medium writers were seeing a drastic drop in views, reads, and income after a major change in the site’s algorithm, my Medium stats were showing the opposite — they were going up. And I wrote about the most likely reason why I thought this was happening to writers in this story, explaining the real reason why Medium stats are going down.
Hint: Making money on Medium is not about luck.
Many writers, especially new writers, tend to believe that the only people making money on Medium are those who “lucked up”. …
Just when it was looking like the world was finally getting a handle on the coronavirus pandemic, it flares up and starts raging out of control again from seemingly out of the blue. But it’s not out of the blue, unfortunately.
It’s because too many people let their guards down too soon. They must have thought that COVID had gone away or was fairly close to being gone. But no it wasn’t. It seems like it was dormant for a while but it was still there, lurking in the shadows.
CNN reports that six countries surrounding India including Sri Lanka…
So what is a Bog Body? It is a naturally mummified human corpse of a person who was killed and placed into a peat bog, which is a wetland that accumulates deposits of dead plant material and various types of mosses. The remains of bog bodies often still have their skin, internal organs, stomach contents, and clothing due to the chemical conditions within the bog, which preserves them for thousands of years.
The image above is that of the bog body of a woman found in Huldremosen, in Denmark, which was dug up by a peat turf worker in 1879…
Raise your hand if you know what it’s like to want something with every fiber of your being and coming up short of getting it, even though you did everything you could think of, and then some, to make it happen.
Still, it just didn’t pan out. You didn’t get want you wanted, and you ask yourself yet again — why does everything have to be so hard?
And then you wonder if it’s worth it to even try again. You begin to allow your fears and insecurities to creep into your mind and heart, which ultimately puts a damper…
