ANCIENT HISTORY

He’s known as the Grauballe Man, a bog body, unearthed in 1952 at the village of Grauballe in Jutland, Denmark

Look at the astonishing detail of this corpse of someone who died over 2,300 years ago! It even shows the wrinkles on his face and the hair still on his head. This is such a remarkable display of ancient human history. Image by Sven Rosborn, Public Domain, via Wikimedia Commons

N, that’s not a toupee the mummified corpse is wearing. It’s his real hair that’s been preserved, along with the rest of his body, by a natural preservation process from sphagnum moss (aka peat moss) combining with low temperature, highly acidic water, and a lack of oxygen, which is also the reason his skin is leathery and tea-colored.

Sphagnum moss can be found blanketed on top of bogs, which are wetlands of peat (aka turf), dead plant material, and other mosses. …

There’s no better time than right now to break a bad habit

Known Cancer-causing Habits

We all have things that we just normally do out of habit, even habits that could cause cancer. And many times habits are just a way of life, and we do the things that we do because that’s the way we’ve always done them, even though those habits could be doing us harm.

And the crazy thing is sometimes people have habits that they know have been proven to cause cancer, but still keep with those habits, such as cigarette smoking (which can cause cancer anywhere in the body, not just the lungs) and too much sun exposure, to name…

HEALTH & FITNESS

I was using the wrong strategy

Photo by Helena Lopes on Unsplash

If you’ve been trying to lose weight by starving your body and trying not to eat anything at all or by attempting to keep up with a fitness routine that doesn’t suit you (which means you’ll probably burn out quickly and stop), then you’re not approaching the goal strategically.

This is what I finally found out for myself. I knew that I needed to use a better strategy to be successful at losing weight.

The body is a machine, and I wanted mine to be more of a fat-burning machine rather than a fat-making one. …

ANCIENT HISTORY

The Children of Llullaillaco are as remarkable as their amazingly preserved bodies buried five centuries ago on a 22,000-feet high mountain

The Inca civilization was the largest pre-Columbian era indigenous empire in the Americas from around the years 1400 to 1533 CE (or AD), occupying much of Peru and covering a large portion of western South America, including Bolivia, Ecuador, and into what is now Chile.

The Inca started as a small tribe, grew more powerful, and conquered other tribes along the coast from Colombia to Argentina. One of their greatest contributions is building a network of roads throughout the region and they are also known for contributing much to architecture and religion.

It is interesting to note that their religion…

Is age really just a number?

Image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay

Chronological Age vs. Biological Age

That is the answer to the question of why some people look younger than their age and others look older than they really are.

How so?

Let’s see…

Aging is, at its simplest description, a biological process, and it happens with anything living whether that be a piece of fruit, a flower, an animal, or a person.

Think about it. What happens to a piece of fruit or flowers when they get old? Their appearance changes drastically from vibrant and supple to the opposite. The fruit rots and decomposes and the flower withers and does the same.

They go through…

Horses in ancient times were symbols of high significance and thought to be most helpful to the wealthy in the afterlife

Hundreds of horses sacrificed to join a dead Nomad in the afterlife. By Rolfmueller — Own work, CC BY-SA 3.0

Sacrificed in rituals to join their dead owners, horses were killed in horse burials as part of human burials. This practice was a significant part of ancient cultures as far back as 4000 to 3500 BC. The image above is of a mass horse grave from over 2,500 years ago, for Duke Jing of Qi who reigned from 547 to 490 BC in China.

Creepy — but fascinating. Look how painstakingly the horses were laid out in a ritualistic fashion. …

HEALTH AND WELLNESS

And a host of other health problems

For the life of me, I could not figure out why my blood pressure was so high and would not go down. I am used to my blood pressure readings being in the good-normal range like 117/72 or at the highest around 122/75, or something like that.

I kept having this eerie feeling coming over me and I was feeling like I had a finger in the light socket. I would get hot and a little breathless at times too. One night I took my blood pressure, which I hadn’t done for a while because I take my blood pressure…

Consistently managing stress can lengthen your life span

You don’t have to be at wit’s end like the girl in the above image for stress to be affecting your health and wellness. Stress can be sneaky and is often called the silent killer. Part of the reason it’s called this is that sometimes you can be majorly stressed and not even realize it because you don’t recognize it.

Probably the most troubling issue with stress is that it’s invisible in itself. …

Why I decided to start having lucid dreams again

Image by Stefan Keller from Pixabay

What is Lucid Dreaming?

Real quick for those of you who may not know. Lucid dreaming is the act of becoming aware that you are dreaming while you’re still asleep. And your dream person that is yourself knows that it’s a dream as well. You may have even done this before unintentionally and then you woke up.

The Feeling You Get When You Have a Lucid Dream

I would describe lucid dreaming as a feeling like you’ve never had before in the waking world. It’s almost unimaginable. It’s like an out-of-body experience but then again it’s not exactly that.

SCIENCE / SPACE

It looks like the idea and possibility of E.T. getting stranded on Earth and wanting to phone home might not be so far-fetched

Photo by JOSHUA COLEMAN on Unsplash

Growing up as a little girl in Kentucky, I remember being both fascinated and terrified of the thought of aliens invading the Earth. There were so many TV shows and movies showing how aliens were these evil, monster-like beings that would be intent on taking over the Earth and either capturing, killing, or assimilating inhabitants of this planet, once they decided to touch down here.

All of that was just so scary to me then — and even today, now that the news is suddenly reporting that the government is confirming that 1000s of UFO files exist on reports of…
